As the holiday season passes, we want to show more beautiful examples of projects that have made the world a better place. For that reason, we would like to dedicate this month to show moments where education has made a difference by sharing a collection of stories titled “Peace Through Education”.
More music, less violence. That is exactly what the Academia Filarmónica de Medellin (AFMED) in partnership with G2C aimed for with the project “Making Dreams Happen for Young Talented Musicians”. This mission is being accomplished by offering support to talented music students with few economic resources located in Medellín and its metropolitan area, so that they may study music at the AFMED, the Music Department of EAFIT University, or abroad.
And in this way makes it possible for this population not to fall in to the way of violence.
The most outstanding musicians, who wanted to pursue a music carreer in a professional level were given the opportunity to continue their studies and also receive international support.
The Philharmonic Academy has teamed with the New World Symphony in Miami (NWS) to use an advanced broadband technology in the field of music education that will permit talented musicians in different countries in the region to impart and receive lessons or play in small ensembles in real-time. This will reduce the costs of the program and make the training more accessible, thus maximizing the synergies between world-class professors in the US and Europe, soloists and orchestras, and music schools in remote cities of Latin America.
