Providing Opportunities for Talented Music Students

Donor: Anonymous
Local Ally: Academia Filarmónica de Medellin
Beneficiaries: 28 students
Location: Medellín, Antioquia

The Medellín Philharmonic Academy (or AFMED in Spanish) is a school that is part of the Medellín Philharmonic Orquestra. The Academy serves the purpose of contributing to the professional development of young, talented, and driven musicians located in Antioquia and all of Colombia. It was founded in 2008 thanks to an initiative started by Colombian director Alejandro Posada, under the artistic direction of Music Masters Pablo Mielgo and Roberto González.

This project offers financial support to talented music students with little to no economic resources located in Medellín and the metropolitan area, so that they may study at the Medellín Philharmonic Academy, the music department of EAFIT University, or abroad at the music department of an international university or music academy. The donation financed 12 scholarships and 16 spots in music camps or national and international music festivals.
