BeLive 2009: The Wayuu Project Gala

More than 600 guests gathered in the beautiful and impactful ICON Brickell in Miami, to celebrate the third year anniversary of BeLive. Daddy Yankee, Amelia Vega, Rodner Figueroa, Kika Rocha, Jimmy Johnson, Raul de Molina, Miguel Varoni, Ilia Calderon, and Catherine Siachoque were just some of the celebrities who came together for this celebration.

BeLive introduced “The Wayuu Mochila Project,” created and curated by Vogue Magazine Contributing Editor, Lauren Santo Domingo. These incredible projects took 40 hand-woven Mochilas bags, created by the Wayuu community in La Guajira, and were reworked by some of the world’s most prominent fashion houses and designers, including Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, Missoni, Silvia Tcherassi, Tory Burch, Nicolas Felizola and Carolina Herrera. Each of the handbags was auctioned during the night of the gala.

For the first time, BeLive also honored several prestigious members of the community for their Philanthropic work, presenting them with the BeLive Award, a statuette created by the artist Federico Uribe. Daddy Yankee received one for his Corazon Valiente Foundation, as well as Shakira for her foundation Pies Descalzos.

Colombian swimwear brand, OndaDeMar showcased incredible designs on the runway, including the latest trends as well as fabulous accessories. As the final pièce de résistance, a concert by Vallenato great, Jorge Celedon, who performed “La Bienvenida,” as well as many other of his hits.
