Each year, more than 400,000 babies are born in Colombia — yet neonatal care is shrinking. Between 2023 and 2024, 132 neonatal beds were closed, leaving countless infants without the critical care they urgently need. Neonatal mortality remains at 11.5 per 1,000 live births, and demand continues to grow.

At LaCardio, with over 25 years of experience caring for fragile newborns, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is already operating at full capacity — caring for nearly 405 newborns each year.

One of the most urgent needs is helping babies who suffer oxygen deprivation at birth — a condition that can cause severe and lifelong brain injury. A Therapeutic Hypothermia System can save lives: by gently lowering a baby’s body temperature, it protects their brain, reduces damage and greatly improves long-term neurological outcomes.

But we do not have enough equipment to serve all babies who need it.

With your help, we plan to expand our NICU from 19 to 24 beds, modernize our care spaces, and acquire this life-saving equipment.

Our current fundraising goal: USD $45,000 — enough to buy a Therapeutic Hypothermia System and give more newborns the chance to survive and thrive. Your generosity can rewrite a lifetime for a child.

Thank you for helping us protect their first breath — their first chance — their future.
