Fundación Las Golondrinas has been working for over 44 years helping girls, boys, and teens from la Comuna 8 in Medellín by creating safe spaces that promote education, well-being, and opportunities that transform lives. But there’s still a lot of work left to do, as nearly 73% of homes in Comuna 8 belong to low socio-economic families, and many of these face violence, exclusion, and lack of opportunities, which greatly impacts children. In Janury through April of 2025 alone, there were 93 registered underage suicides.

As a result, Fundación Las Golondrinas recognized that children and teens need safe spaces where they can discover their talents, strengthen their emotional well-being, and build their life projects. For this reason they created an initiative called Banda de Marcha.

Through this project, the foundation will:

  • Provide an integral formation process for children by including a pedagogical team consisting of 3 teachers.
  • Implement practices and musical ensembles where children can practice and use learning materials.
  • Provide uniforms, shirts, speakers, tuners, and other equipment, as well as maintain the musical instruments of the children.
  • Implement events, such as a launch as well as in local festivals, to help strengthen the leadership, team, and communication skills of participants, as well as their sense of belonging.

This initiative will benefit 42 participants, 40 of them being children between the ages of 10 and 18 from nearby local schools, and 2 participants will be mothers from Comuna 8.

Your support can make a difference as:

  • $45 monthly donation supports one child’s participation.
  • $225 monthly donation supports 5 children.
  • $450 monthly donation supports 10 children.
  • $1,890 monthly supports the whole band.

With your help, we can provide safe environments to help these children thrive!
