Transit Home for Wounded Soldiers

Donor: H. Botero
Local Ally: Corporación Matamoros
Beneficiaries: 823 individuals
Location: Bogotá

One of the main issues wounded veterans and their families encounter when traveling to Bogotá, whether it is for medical interventions, legal services, or rehabilitation after being wounded, is their inability to afford lodgings for themselves and their families. Corporación Matamoros realized the difficulties that arose and sought to fulfill this need for the wounded or disabled soldiers and police officers they serve. They did so through the establishment of a transit home that also helped provide meals for these individuals and their families.

Unfortunately, in 2020 Corporación Matamoros saw itself forced to close the doors of its transit home as the COVID pandemic struck. But two years later, thanks to a generous individual the transit home once again opened its doors. Through this project not only did the transit home reopen, but they were also able to make some much needed repairs in the infrastructure, refurnish the transit home, increase its capacity, and employ a team that will ensure a pleasant and hospitable experience for those who stay there.

In its first year alone the transit home helped 823 individuals, showing the importance of providing this service to our fallen heroes and their families.
